After taking a hiatus for a while, Ghana’s first ever modeling awards scheme the ‘Ghana Models Awards’, is set to make a comeback this year on the 21st of August with a new category in order to encourage models in some unique areas of the profession as well as models of Ghanaian heritage who are excelling abroad.

The Founder of the Ghana Models Awards Jerry Wonder, added that the event is the only awards scheme that genuinely seeks to improve the profession of modelling in Ghana.

The first edition of the Ghana Models Awards came off in 2013 at the Alisa Hotel in Accra. This year’s edition according to the Founder will come off at a plush venue of that nature and will recognize models who have excelled in the profession during the year 2019. “This year we are going to celebrate our hardworking achievers within the modeling fraternity in Ghana who indeed made some impact in 2019. We will also be adding a new category to include our brothers and sisters doing very well on other continents. The event will come off at a very serene but glamorous venue which we will later announce later”, he said.

He added that modelling in Ghana can indeed be a real breadwinner if only the right policies are put in place. “Modelling is a profession and just as teachers, bankers and others go about their work, models also do the same. But, it is the lack of certain policies to protect the work of models in Ghana that is crippling our industry. Why should models from outside be used for some major jobs by companies in Ghana when we have local talents who are competent enough?”, he said.

This year’s Ghana Models Awards will be the third edition of the awards scheme. The current recipients of the highest awards of the night during the last edition were Ian Wordi who took home 3 awards including the Overall Male Model of the Year, and Victoria Michael’s who received the Overall Female Model of the Year award.
