The stage was set for an epic semifinal clash between the 2019 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) finalists but St Peter’s SHS and Presec Legon would have to wait at least another year for a chance at avenging their defeat two years ago.
The Cape Coast giants, St Augustine’s College defeated then defending champions St Peter’s SHS and Presec Legon to lift their second title.
On Friday, the three favorites were all involved in different quarterfinal contests, which set up a possible repeat of the 2019 grand finalé.
But, Chemu SHS from Tema established themselves as giant killers and slayed the Cape Coast-based Augusco.
However, Persco still has scores to settle with Presec Legon who displaced the former to place second in the memorable 2019 finalé.
The three-time champions became the first team to book their semifinal spot Friday morning after they shrugged off Ho-based Sonrise Senior High whose above-average performance was not enough to match the 2018 champions.
Bolgatanga SHS placed third in the morning’s contest and like, Sonrise, have been eliminated but have been seeded for the 2022 Edition of the competition.
Persco has some bad memories to re-write.
‘Ɛnko yiee,’ their supporters were heard saying outside the auditorium of the National Theatre after their contestants had promised “it is finished” in that epic quote before the final contest two years ago.
Indeed, it was finished, as they lost the title to St Augustine’s.
Presec Legon was the first runner’s up in that closely fought Grand Finalé and have also defeated their contenders in Friday’s quarterfinal contest.
Swedru SHS and Techiman SHS were no match for the defending champions who are chasing a record seventh title.
Well, the die is cast and the stage is set for repeat or revenge. Presec Legon has everything to lose, being defending champions and seeking to avoid a no-show in the grand finalé.
Persco on the other hand has to avoid succumbing to the Legon-based opponents for a second time running.
Meanwhile, Augusco continues to bear the brunt of social media trolls after the loss to Chemu SHS.
