Ghanaian singer and entrepreneur Afua Asantewaa Aduonum is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual
She will be performing non-stop from December 24 to 27 in Accra, Ghana. Her application to attempt the record was accepted by Guinness World Records, and she aims to sing for more than 117 hours continuously, surpassing the current record holder Sunil Waghmare of India.
Asantewaa’s endeavor is focused on promoting Ghanaian music globally, showcasing various genres such as gospel, highlife, and hiplife. To achieve this feat, she must sing over 3,200 different Ghanaian songs without any repetitions, while adhering to the strict guidelines set by Guinness World Records. Each song must be performed within a two-minute mark, making it a challenging and grueling task.
The current record holder, Sunil Waghmare, accomplished the feat in Nagpur, India, from March 3 to 7, 2012, by singing a diverse selection of popular Indian songs with no repetition within four hours. Asantewaa hopes to break this record and bring recognition to Ghanaian music on a global scale.
The marathon singing event will be held in Accra, and Asantewaa has urged her supporters to join her in the attempt.
