Versatile Ghanaian actress and TV personality Nana Ama McBrown has shared her unique perspective on tithing, stating that she often prioritizes giving directly to those in need over traditional church contributions.

According to her, this approach allows her to directly impact the lives of the less privileged.

“I pay my tithes more on the street than in church,” she stated, emphasizing her commitment to helping the underprivileged in society.

McBrown made this revelation during her appearance as a guest on her show, Onua Showtime with McBrown, hosted by Ernest Kwesi Ennin and co-hosted by blogger Kobby Kyei on Friday, January 24, 2025.

The award-winning actress and brand ambassador further disclosed that in 2024, she spent over GH₵90,000 on school fees for needy students, as part of giving back to Ghanaians for their love and support throughout her career. She explained that while most of her philanthropic efforts are done away from the cameras, her birthday donations are publicized due to the involvement of brands she represents.

McBrown noted that it is essential to let her sponsors know that their contributions have been delivered as intended.

“I need to give back to show my appreciation to Ghanaians for the love and support they’ve shown me over the years,” she shared.

The TV host also attributed her success in securing ambassadorial deals to God’s favor and grace, as well as her humility and hard work. She expressed gratitude to her uncle for changing her name from Felicity Agyemang to Nana Ama McBrown, a move she believes marked a significant turning point in her life.

“Because of my humility and hard work, I put in my brand (Nana Ama McBrown). That’s what helped me to obtain more ambassadorial deals,” she said, adding that understanding her employers has been key in maintaining her partnerships.

McBrown further revealed that her legacy has already been documented in a project completed two and a half years ago, with the assistance of entertainment journalist Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo. However, the project is yet to be released.

Through her unconventional approach to tithing and her numerous charitable works, Nana Ama McBrown continues to impact lives while cementing her legacy as a celebrated actress and philanthropist.
