Renowned actress and film producer, Yvonne Nelson has shared the numerous obstacles she encountered while establishing her schools.
She described the process as arduous and filled with difficulties.
Yvonne Nelson mentioned that during the construction of her newly commissioned Yvonne Nelson International School, she exhausted her funds and could not obtain financial support or loans from the bank.
She detailed that the interest percentage proposed by the banks on the loan she requested was unreasonable; therefore, she had to sell her house and properties to fund the building of the schools.
“We just started primary school and this is just phase one. We are going to continue and go higher. It is crazy because, at some point, I am getting personal now. When we started the project, I had to sell my house because I went to the banks for a loan and the percentages were, look, it did not make sense.
“So, I had to fall back on a house and sell it. I had so many memories there but I said to myself, Yvonne, this is the only way, so I sold the house, started the building, the money got finished and I had to dig into my savings,” she said.
Despite the challenges she’s faced on the project, Yvonne Nelson made known that she remains unperturbed because, hopefully, the school will be impactful and raise many future leaders for the country.
She said, “Regardless of all the challenges, my heart is in the school project, and I know we will go to lengths that will surprise us. I know that a lot of future leaders are going to come out of the school.”
