Rapper Okyeame Kwame says he has cultivated the habit of educating his two children, 11-year-old Sir Bota Nsiah-Apau and 9-year-old Sante Nsiah-Apau, about sex every day.
According to him, he would rather teach them about sex and intimacy than have outsiders not want outsiders to misinform them.
“I think our society shies away from speaking about the most important things like sex, money, conflict, and death… These are amazing things that we need to look at,” he told Andy Dosty on the Daybreak Hitz show on Monday.
The rapper explained that parents often fail to educate their children on these topics because they are considered something of a taboo in our cultural setting.
“Because of that we always go back to what our forefathers said about these things many years ago even though it might not be applicable in modern terms, we still hold on to it because we are too scared to talk.”
Okyeame Kwame said the reason behind this is to be able to empower his children with the knowledge that was not shared with many adults when they were young.
He explained that this will help ensure that the kids do not make the mistakes their others have made.
“I talk to them about it every day. On their drive to school, we talk about it… They ask all sorts of questions. Would you rather want their friends to tell them? Or you would rather tell them the actual truth?”
The ‘Yee Ko’ hitmaker added “I make them understand it has to be the right age, the right time, and the right person. This is what we drum in.”
