The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has officially launched its Golden Jubilee celebration, marking fifty years since its founding in 1975.

In an event held on November 7, 2024, at the Accra Tourist Information Centre, MUSIGA President Bessa Simons announced a robust lineup of activities to honor the union’s five-decade legacy and strengthen connections within the global music community.

The anniversary, set for 2025, promises an exciting series of events, including concerts, symposiums, lectures, and a gala dinner, all aimed at celebrating Ghanaian music and its cultural impact worldwide. According to Mr. Simons, the union has ambitious plans to feature a mix of local and international artists, offering Ghanaians a rich and diverse musical experience.

Highlighting the celebrations is an all-women music festival designed to bring together female musicians from around the world.

“One big thing is going to happen, and that is we are going to have an all-women festival,” Bessa Simons shared at the launch. He extended an invitation to female artists globally, urging them to join this historic celebration.

“We are inviting female musicians from all over the world, and it is self-sponsored if you are coming from outside. All the embassies will publish it, so we are expecting women to come to Ghana and then they will mount the stage,” he said.

The event will feature performances in a variety of settings, including outdoor concerts, indoor stages, and church events, offering a unique opportunity for cultural exchange and collaboration. Mr. Simons also hinted at bringing renowned gospel artist CeCe Winans and other international stars to Ghana to collaborate with local talents. “We’re thinking about bringing CeCe Winans and co here, to collaborate with our artistes, so that at the end of next year, there will be harmony between us and artistes from all over the world,” he added.

Founded on December 9, 1975, MUSIGA has spent the past fifty years advocating for the rights of musicians, fostering the growth of the music industry, and working to preserve Ghana’s rich musical heritage. This Golden Jubilee, packed with celebratory activities, seeks to honor that mission and inspire the next generation of musicians.

The lineup promises to be a landmark series of events, reflecting not only the achievements of MUSIGA but also the unifying power of music in Ghana and beyond.
