“Mr. Speaker, in 2026, government will rehabilitate the National Theatre in Accra. We will also commence site acquisition and design of a second national theatre in Kumasi,” Dr Cassiel Ato Forson stated.

Eight Ghanaians lost their lives in the crash on 6th August 2025. The deceased include Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. Others were NDC Vice Chairman and former Kumasi mayor, Dr Samuel Sarpong, Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, and former NDC parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Mr Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, all members of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Mahama announces start of Kumasi Western Bypass under ‘Big Push Programme’

“Under the Big Push Programme, we will begin the construction of the Kumasi Western Bypass. This will significantly reduce unnecessary traffic, particularly from heavy articulated cargo trucks passing through the city. They will have an alternative route connecting the Mampong and Techiman roads via Ejisu,” he stated.

“A lot of things are in bad shape at the theatre. The curtains cannot be drawn, and the stage is in bad shape, so it is time for us to rehabilitate the building to help the creative industry,” Mahama said. He outlined plans to modernize the theatre with new equipment, transforming it into a state-of-the-art creative hub capable of supporting artists nationwide.
