The Sharks Quiz: Keta Senior High dims Sonrise’s hope of getting into the semifinals

Ketasco were unstoppable in their quarterfinal victory against Sonrise Christian High in The Sharks all-round junior and senior high academic competition. Dubbed the “Volta battle”, many were expecting Sonrise Christian High to give Keta Senior High a tough contest, judging from their impressive display against Ghana Christian International High in the Round of 16.

This was not to be however, as Ketasco led throughout the four-round contest, from the Right Corner Round (Social Literacy) to the R cubed round (Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic), the STEM round and finally the fans’ favorite, the One-on-One round. Sonrise were on this day a shade of their former selves and could not find their earlier form to face off an impressive Keta side. The final scores were 155 to 20 points in favor of the “Dzolali” side. Keta Senior High joins three other illustrious schools Presec – Legon, Saint Thomas Aquinas and Mawuli School at the semifinal stage.

At the junior level, Manna International from Kumasi were remarkable in their quarterfinal victory over newcomers Services JHS. Many expected and ultimately witnessed a keen topsy-turvy contest between the two exciting sides. Experience came to play however as, Manna International, who are last year’s semifinalists bounced back in the final two rounds to clinch victory. 110 -95 it ended. Manna International joins Ghana Christian International High, DPS International and Burma Camp JHS at the semifinal stage.

The excitement still continues in The Sharks Academic Competition. Next week Volta regional heavyweights Mawuli School meets with Accra favorite day school Saint Thomas Aquinas for a spot in the finals. At the junior level, defending champions Ghana Christian International High faces off newcomers Burma Camp JHS. The contests show on TV3 (DSTV 279) every Saturday from 2.30pm and streams live on The Sharks Quiz Facebook and Youtube pages.

The Sharks all-round competition focuses on core competencies – Literacy, Numeracy, STEM and Social Literacy and is endorsed by the Ministry of Education, supported by Family Health Medical School, Academic City College, Ashesi University, Webster University, Indomie, B5 Plus, Frytol, Fortune Rice, Louisiana State University, University of St. Thomas, Givers Care, Coco Pops and Mcberry biscuits.
